In
some of these works, archaic textual content is recycled with little
or no alteration in order to inform a present context. In one case,
an old Latin saying has been transposed from another source, but
left intact as a tribute to art world nepotism: ASINUS ASINUM FRICAT,
or, THE ASS RUBS THE ASS. In another case, the text below a small
figure who looks for all the world as if he is saying "Shhhhh
"
was replaced with a quote from the Roman poet Ovid, the translation
of which ("He who has lived in obscurity has lived well")
is my antidote to Warhols "15 minutes."
