In some of these works, archaic textual content is recycled with little or no alteration in order to inform a present context. In one case, an old Latin saying has been transposed from another source, but left intact as a tribute to art world nepotism: ASINUS ASINUM FRICAT, or, THE ASS RUBS THE ASS. In another case, the text below a small figure – who looks for all the world as if he is saying "Shhhhh…" – was replaced with a quote from the Roman poet Ovid, the translation of which ("He who has lived in obscurity has lived well") is my antidote to Warhol’s "15 minutes."
